Best External Hard Drive

Looking For The Best External Hard Drive?

So, you have decided you need a backup source and are looking for the Best External Hard Drive available. We all know that every computer has to have a hard drive to operate and they all come with an internal hard drive that you might not even know where to locate.  Now days, people are backing up their data with external hard drives more than ever whether it be by using a simple USB flash drive or the the more costly best external hard drives.

Some of the biggest external hard drives can hold up to 4 to 8 terabytes (4,000 to 10,000 gigabytes) which is a crazy amount of space that most

people would have trouble ever maxing out. The question is, do you need all that space or do you need a hard drive that has fast read and write speeds or both?

If you are basing your decision on pure speed then you might want to look into some of the solid state drives (SSDs) that operate at about twice the speed of some of the regular fastest hard drives.  Solid state drives can be somewhat expensive, but usually the investment is well worth the speed you might be yearning for.

If you look into getting a SSD, then know that most come in 2.5 inch standard (laptop size) and they are internal.

Now, back to the current best external hard drives.  First an external hard drive is of course external.  You can unplug it and take it anywhere with you just as you would a usb flash drive.  These drives are used for mostly everything a flash drive is used for besides more space for your data.  They are used to backup your data, to transfer it to other computers, and most importantly to increase your storage space/capacity.

Once you plug it in via usb, firewire, or esata, it will be recognized on your computer just like your normal internal hard drive. The good news there is no extra power cable because external drives are normally bus-powered which means the one data cable it comes with will do the trick.
